Publishing Money Trees Explained

I’ve been telling my subscribers lately about this new course: Publishing Money Trees from Amy and Deb Creations. There have been some questions about what exactly it means to set up a publishing business, and how to do it.

If you know how to self-publish, you can help others do the same thing. Here is a video from Amy and Deb answering some of your questions about how to implement the system:

After you watch the video, check out Publishing Money Trees at the page below:

Free Images for Commercial Use

curationgrapicOne topic that turns up over and over again in discussions among writers from all walks of life is that of locating images to use with your content. Whether it is for blog posts, book covers or illustrations, we all have a continuous need for relevant images.

Choosing to use images from the wrong place can be very, very dangerous and costly!

It may seem expensive to pay for stock images, but it costs a lot less than legal fees and fines if you get caught “stealing” someone’s copyrighted material.

There is another option though. There are places you can get images that have been given the green light for you to use. I just found an article on WebsiteMagazine.com that shares some good ones that I hadn’t seen before.

Enjoy:

Remember: always do your due diligence and check the license on any site where you get images. My advice is to take that a step further and download a copy of the license and keep it with the image on your computer, along with the date of the download, and any fees you paid.

The Art of Non-Conformity

curationgrapicToday is the final day of the 21-day Curation Challenge issued by Kelly McCausey, and yes I will be getting my mug!

I wanted to finish the challenge with something that felt…special.

So I went outside of the writing and self-publishing blogs I usually visit and am sharing a blog that covers another love: that of doing your own thing.

Chris Guillebeau IS a writer and he does talk a lot about writing on his blog, but he also talks about travel and other things too. The blog? It’s called the Art of Non-Conformity and he calls it a home for unconventional people doing remarkable things. It’s one of those blogs that just makes you feel good when you read it.

I love that! And I love his philosophy which is this:

“The Art of Non-Conformity Blog Philosphy:”

1. You don’t have to live your life the way other people expect.

2. You can do good things for yourself and help other people at the same time.

3. If you don’t decide for yourself what you want to get out of life, someone else will end up deciding for you.

4. There is usually more than one way to accomplish something.

This is so much the essence of  my own Freestyle Author philosophy that I had to make this my “crowning piece” of this challenge.

To satisfy the content sharing part of the challenge I need to choose a particular post to share with you. I chose: If You Want to Write A Book, Go to a Boring Place

It fits with my own personal thoughts about the upcoming Writing Date Day, which is to go somewhere quiet and low-key.

I know a lot of people choose places like coffee shops and cafes, but I think I’d end up doing too much people-watching and not enough writing.

I’ll choose the library or the park.

How about you? Where do you like to write?

Can You Write 10,000 Words in a Day?

curationgrapicToday I want to share a blog post that I read a while back that totally inspired me.

It’s by author Rachel Aaron, and it tells the story of how she went from writing 2k words in a day to 10k words! It’s a long post, and she tells you exactly what she did.

How I Went From Writing 2,000 Words a Day to 10,000 Words a Day

According to Rachel:

Drastically increasing your words per day is actually pretty easy, all it takes is a shift in perspective and the ability to be honest with yourself (which is the hardest part).

Read the post and see if it doesn’t help with your writing productivity! With the first annual National Writing Date Day coming, wouldn’t you like to make the most of your date?

Getting Banned from Amazon Pre-Order Privileges

curationgrapicThe ability to allow pre-orders of your books is a new function on the Kindle Direct Publishing platform. It sounds like a pretty handy thing to offer, but before your rush into it, maybe you should read about Derek Murphy’s experience with getting banned for a year due to an error in the system: How to use Kindle pre-orders to pre-sell your self-published book

INVISIBLE_TEXT

Advice from Derek:

Make sure you upload a final version of your book at least 10 days (2 weeks to be safe) before the publishing date, since the consequences appear to be dire.

Literary Word Counts

curationgrapicWhen you love books, there is only one thing that can be said about the Literary Word Count Infographic posted on Shortlist.com and that’s “awesome!”

No quotes from this one. You just have to go soak it up.
